Boston- Dunkin announced that its Dunkin Joy in Childhood Foundation has donated nearly $1 Million via grants to bring relief to children and families experiencing food insecurity. This funding came at a time when food banks were going through critical times. Food banks are witnessing an increase in demand these days and every one out of six people are turning to food assistance organizations to access the food.
The grant funding mentioned includes a total of $1,040,000, allocated in two parts. First, $550,000 is provided to support Feeding America® partner food banks. This funding will be used for various initiatives such as backpacks, supplies, school pantries, and summer food programs. Additionally, the Foundation has granted $490,000 to 20 food banks across 17 states to enhance programs that assist children and families.
People in America are working hard to provide for themselves and their families as everyone needs nutritious food to thrive. Still, 44 Million people will face food insecurity in the U.S. in 2022. The end of pandemic-era relief efforts and rising prices of food have adversely affected people’s abilities to make ends meet.
The Chairman of Dunkin Joy in Childhood Foundation said, “Every day, we receive requests from hunger-relief organizations nationwide because of their growing needs. We are happy to be able to answer the call and provide grant funding for these crucial programs that provide food access to kids. Hunger impacts countless children in our communities, and a child should never have to go to bed hungry or not know when or where their next meal will come. When a child faces food insecurity, it prevents them from leading a healthy and happy life”.
Since its inception, Dunkin Joy in Childhood Foundation has granted nearly $15 Million to around 1500 hunger relief organizations across the country. The Dunkin Joy in Childhood Foundation also gives back by volunteering at food banks across the country throughout the year. Its franchisees and team members have volunteered more than 300,000 hours of their time to support hunger relief organizations.
