The Kroger company’s zero hunger zero waste foundation has provided a Feeding America $1 Million grant to tackle food insecurity in the U.S.

This funding will be used to support four food banks in the U.S. such as Houston Food Bank, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and Mid-South Food Bank.
Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer for Kroger said, “Kroger is a longstanding partner with more than 200 local food banks in our shared mission to eliminate hunger in our communities”.

This grant given by Kroger Company will be used to support food banks so that the U.S. achieve its goal of ending hunger and eliminating food waste across America.

The reports reveal that $1 Million will be spent on empowering food banks and agencies to increase the number of weekly food pick-ups via new equipment such as vans, and freezers, and added resources such as training and technology. The grant will be used to enhance retail rescue programs by increasing the ability of agency supporters to perform direct pick-ups and to improve equal access to nutritious food.

Feeding America’s Officer Erika Thiem said, “Kroger’s lasting collaboration with Feeding America means people facing hunger have more access to the food and resources they need to thrive”.

In celebration of receiving a grant, Feeding America’s divisions in Atlanta, Houston, Michigan, and Tennessee are planning a day of volunteering and service in February 2024. Associates in these divisions will be engaged in sorting, organizing, and packing meals for their local communities.
