The Maui residents who were affected by wildfires and lost all their food can get their benefits reimbursed now.
The Households in Maui can get their monthly cash benefits back for food that was destroyed in wildfires. An announcement was made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that they will automatically approve SNAP benefits for the ones who lost their food to the wildfires.
The existing SNAP participants can also apply to get their August month benefits reimbursed if they lost last month’s groceries to the fires.
SNAP benefits which didn’t cover hot foods before are allowed now for the victims of the Maui Wildfires. These changes to SNAP are only for the people who evacuated to shelters and do not have access to cooking or storing food.
The waiver for the hot foods is temporary and will be valid only till October 14. The affected individuals can apply at their nearest benefits processing center to get their benefits replaced. Once approved, the benefits will be issued to the recipient’s existing EBT cards.
