January 30, 2024

Washington- The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $134 Million in funds for more than 300 Florida projects to help homeless people. This funding is a part of the $3.16 Billion in Continuum of Care program awards for 7000 projects nationwide.

The allocated funding of $133,832,958 will be distributed for various programs throughout Florida, ranging from a large-scale housing project in Miami-Dade receiving $3.4 million to a smaller allocation of $3,500 for technology operations in DeSoto, Glades and numerous counties.

HUD’s Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said, “Now, more than ever, we are doing all we can to get people off the street and into permanent homes with access to services. That is why we are making sure the service providers on the frontlines of this crisis have the resources they need”.
The $3.16 Billion is the largest amount of Continuum of Care program funding awarded to communities to address homelessness and provides expanded resources at a time when rates of homelessness are increasing in most communities. The 2023 awards include $57 Million for new projects supporting housing and service needs for the ones who survived domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

In the last three years, HUD has permanently housed nearly 1.2 Million people experiencing homelessness.

Fudge said, “The historic awards we are announcing today will expand community capacity to assist more people in obtaining the safety and stability of a home, along with the support they need to achieve their life goals”.
