Washington- The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is giving $20 Million to 11 communities through the Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) program. These funds will be used for community buildings, housing rehabilitation, infrastructure, economic development, and support of American Indian and Alaskan Native families on Indian reservations and in other Indian areas. HUD provided $75 Million to tribes in June 2023 via the ICDBG Program for community development. Once the reviews are completed, more awards will be announced.
HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said, “This critical funding will help Tribal Nations meet the needs of their communities and build toward their futures. Our Administration is proud to fulfill its responsibility to our Tribal Nations in ways that respect their sovereignty and allow them to thrive.”
Richard Monochhio said, “Seeing firsthand the incredible work Tribes are doing on behalf of their communities is inspiring. We continue to meet emerging needs in Indian Country with this funding, and there is no better investment than supporting Tribes to develop innovative solutions for complex challenges.”
The Department acknowledges the crucial impact of funding on Tribal communities and emphasizes the urgency of distributing Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) funds swiftly after review completion. HUD expresses gratitude towards Tribes for their essential feedback during Tribal consultation, which played a significant role in shaping the development of this grant competition.
