It is crucial to increase our knowledge base about what works and what does not through conducting qualitative and quantitative research to prevent and end homelessness in the United States. This research will form the base and inform the nation’s response to the homelessness crisis at the federal, state, and local levels.
The Federal Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness released by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness is built on the commitment to advance evidence-based practices. “Use data and Evidence to make Decisions” is one of the foundational pillars of the plan and includes a strategy to develop a federal homelessness research agenda by collaborating with the federal agencies and innovative programs to research best practices, metrics to measure results and the effectiveness of various interventions.
USICH also seeks input on the federal homelessness research agenda to determine federal priorities in homelessness research and create a roadmap to build evidence regarding what works in favor of preventing and ending homelessness.
