Today, Julia R. Gordon, HUD’s Assistant Secretary for Housing at (HUD), along with leaders from National Church Residences celebrated the inauguration of Salem Village in Columbus, OH. This new establishment will build 76 affordable rental homes for seniors having low income. Julia Gordon brings to light the importance of HUD’s partnership with National Church residences and Non-profit housing providers as a critical component to increase the housing supply for low-income seniors and other vulnerable populations.

HUD’s Assistant Secretary Julia Gordon said, “Our goal is to forge deep and meaningful relationships with those who, like National Church Residences, are at the forefront of providing safe, stable, and affordable housing to those we collectively serve. The opening of Salem Village is just one of the examples of how our long-standing partnership with National Church Residences can positively impact the lives of low-income seniors who need both affordable housing and the supportive services to live independently.”

The financing for the development of Salem Village took place in part through a $4.9 Million grant in 2020 from HUD’s Multifamily Section 202 Capital Advance and project-based rental assistance programs. HUD awarded more than $9 Million in Section 202 Capital Advance and Project-Based Rental Assistance Grants on October 3.

From 2020 to October 2023, HUD has granted National Church Residences over $30 million to support the development and renovation of affordable rental homes for low-income seniors. Currently, HUD offers rental assistance for over 16,000 affordable rental homes owned by National Church Residences.
