HUD Launches National Healthy Homes Campaign To Provide Affordable Housing Across The Country
The “Connecting Home, Health, and You” theme emphasizes the positive impact of addressing housing hazards on residents’ health and promotes enhanced access to safe and affordable healthy housing throughout the nation.
Washington- The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launches the National Healthy Homes Campaign highlighting the direct connection between housing quality and residents’ health.
The National Healthy Homes Month Campaign will educate families and communities about the significance of creating and maintaining a healthy home by addressing housing hazards, improving ventilation, controlling pests, and maintaining indoor air quality.
The theme of Connecting Home, Health and You throws light on the connection between housing quality and health. In addition to this, it also raises awareness of the lower costs for families by improving the quality of life and housing supply.
HUD’s Secretary, Marcia L. Fudge said, “This month, we are reminded that everyone in this country deserves to be safe and healthy in their homes. HUD and our many partners are working together to protect vulnerable residents from lead exposure and other home health hazards.”
The highlight of the campaign will be the nomination process for the new HUD secretary. Out of all the recipients, one recipient will be selected who will depict a holistic approach to creating healthy home culture. Two historic notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) were announced to make homes healthier and safer for low-income families.
The first notice announces $700 Million to both state and local governments to improve the health and safety of people, especially low-income families. The second notice provides $50 Million to assist communities to operate healthy home programs. Besides this, there are plenty of other funding opportunities which will be announced soon.
