HUD Seeks Input To Strengthen Domestic Manufacturing For Infrastructure Projects Under President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda

HUD seeks public feedback to enhance Build America, Buy America implementation, and understand market readiness.

February 9, 2024

Washington- The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a Request For Information (RFI) regarding infrastructure projects receiving federal financial assistance (FFA) and the ones subjected to the Build America. HUD has partnered with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and other federal agencies to seek public feedback and crucial information which in turn will improve understanding of the products required in housing infrastructure projects.

HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said, “Here at HUD, we are building, retrofitting, and improving housing all across the country through President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. Today’s request will help us understand how we can best expand the domestic supply chain for these housing infrastructure projects.”

HUD seeks public input regarding the implementation of Build America, Buy America as it applies to HUD’s FFA provided to construct and repair infrastructure projects in the U.S. The Department wants to collect information from grant recipients, housing contractors, stakeholders, the public, and manufacturers. The comments may address market readiness, delivery lead time, domestic materials sourcing, housing products in the U.S., and other product supply considerations.

HUD is committed to advancing Made in America objectives and implementing Build America, Buy America requirements to extend its support to investments in domestic production.

A public webinar will also be hosted by HUD to provide an overview of the notice on Thursday February 22 from 1-1:30 pm EST.

HUD will be accepting comments for 60 days after the publication in the federal register. Once published, people can submit their comments.

Enacted in November 2021 as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Build America, Buy America (BABA) is designed to strengthen America’s domestic manufacturing and supply chain. Its goals include protecting national security, supporting high-paying jobs, enhancing community investment, fostering economic prosperity, and encouraging innovation.
