Recently an announcement was made by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Deputy Secretary for Field Policy and Management Michele Perez regarding awarding the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant of $40 Million to Miami Dade County to redevelop Cutler Manor in the Goulds area. HUD leaders will travel across the country to empower local communities to increase affordable housing supply through building preservation and innovation.
HUD’s Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said, “I am pleased to see that Miami-Dade County is receiving this Choice Neighborhoods award. Miami-Dade County has demonstrated its commitment to neighborhood revitalization, having already undergone a comprehensive local planning effort to redevelop the Cutler Manor and the surrounding Goulds neighborhood. This public investment, which represents the maximum amount for grants targeting smaller housing developments, will give local officials the resources they need to achieve their vision for Goulds.”
Besides this, seven other communities will also be awarded $370 Million throughout the country. By using these grants, HUD plans to transform the distressed public and assisted housing and also provide other services to the residents.
The grants mainly focus on three areas which include housing, people, and neighborhood, and strive to create mixed-income housing communities. The recent awardees will join an existing group of 44 Choice Neighborhoods sites across the country that have invested over $6.3 billion in historically underserved communities. These eight new awards have also attracted an additional $3 billion in public and private funding to support their comprehensive Transformation Plans.
The main aim of “HUD on the Road” is to make HUD more accessible, and enhance wealth-building and homeownership opportunities for all Americans. HUD leaders have a plan to create a brighter and more inclusive future where every individual has housing and economic opportunities.
