Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania- Pennsylvania American Water revealed its 2023 charitable contributions, which amounted to $46,150, dedicated to addressing food insecurity. These donations have assisted 12 food banks across the state within its service area.
American Water presented a check of $5000 to the Midwest Food Bank in Pennsylvania to end hunger.
Laura Martin, Senior Director of Government and External Affairs said, “Pennsylvania American Water takes great pride in supporting the needs of our customers and the communities we serve. Our partnerships with local food banks allow us to contribute to issues of food insecurity, and they align well with other resources we provide, like our H2O Help to Others customer assistance program, which offers grants and monthly discounts to low-income customers who qualify.”
Pennsylvania American Water made contributions to food banks throughout the year as hunger is an ongoing issue to support those organizations that work directly with segments of its service territory. The company also encourages its employees to serve as volunteers at the food banks and organizes opportunities for them to do so.
Some of the organizations receiving financial support from Pennsylvania American Water to combat food security include Rainbow Kitchen Community Services, Helping Harvest, East End Community Food Bank, Weinberg Regional Food Bank, Moshannon Valley YMCA, and Chester County Food Bank.
Due to inflation and economic challenges, there’s a 25% increase in the number of people seeking food assistance. Many food banks are serving tons of people and are also struggling to keep pace with the rising needs.
Pennsylvania American Water goes beyond aiding food banks; the company also emphasizes the safety, reliability, and affordability of tap water compared to bottled water. They promote “trusting the tap” as a way to reduce single-use plastics and save money while contributing to environmental well-being.
