The people living in Phoenix will have the opportunity to apply for the city’s Housing Choice Voucher program for the first time since 2016. 

The Housing Choice Voucher program offers rental assistance to members of our community who need assistance and cannot afford high rent. In Phoenix, nearly 7000 people are receiving housing choice vouchers and 2000 are on the waiting list waiting for the opening of the pre-application process. 

But the challenge is to find funding to accommodate everyone. With 7000 people already getting the benefit of the voucher program, the question is how many more people will benefit from this. 

It is because Phoenix City is provided a certain amount only along with a finite number of vouchers from the federal government and Department of Housing and Urban Development. 

Consequently, the city will provide additional vouchers as the funding becomes available. 

From $82 to $2017 the median price of the rent went up due to which, many people in Phoenix are unable to afford rent. The housing manager of Phoenix is expecting a healthy response to the pre-application opening because the need for affordable housing is going to rise. 

Phoenix City needs more landlords to join the voucher program to meet the housing needs of the people. The waitlist will be open from September 12 to September 26 i.e. for 15 days. 

The low-income individuals and families residing in Phoenix can apply for the housing choice vouchers online or in person. Phoenix hopes to provide housing to 2,000 people on the waiting list.
