Housing Choice Vouchers also known as Section 8 help people in need of affordable housing. However, landlords do not accept people with housing choice vouchers by saying that they don’t want to take up the paperwork or are worried that tenants might end up damaging their housing units.

Consequently, Johnson County introduced a new program to increase the number of landlords who accept vouchers by offering them incentives. The landlords who will accept the tenants with vouchers will get access to damage claim funds and also get a one-time bonus equal to two month’s rent.

A landlord named Grant Preston said, “I was kind of debating whether I want to do market rate or use a housing choice voucher. With this incentive, it really was the determining factor.”

It is revealed that 13 landlords have joined the program so far. Besides this, 10 landlords are the ones who have never rented to tenants with vouchers before.
