Steps to Apply for House Choice Voucher
Those interested in applying for a Housing Choice Voucher need take the below steps:
- Contact your local Public Housing Authority or HUD Field or Regional office.
- Complete the paper application fully, incomplete applications will not be considered.
- The Public Housing Agency representative will reach out to you to verify all information provided on application including: family size, income and assets etc.
- If all criteria is met and application is approved you will be placed on the wait list unless a voucher is immediately available.
- Once available you will be contacted by the Public Housing Authority and move forward with choosing a property to reside in. There are times where you could remain in your current housing unit if the landlord is willing to participate in the program.
