Fair Housing Rights and Obligations
The individuals seeking a mortgage or housing assistance often complain about discrimination in the sale or rental of housing. The Fair Housing Act considers it illegal to discriminate the individuals based on race, color, gender, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and family status. Besides this, there are a variety of other federal civil rights laws such as the Civil Rights Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with a Disability Act. The Civil Rights Act ensures effective communication with individuals suffering from disabilities. Consequently, the fair housing and civil rights laws should ask the participants of the HUD to lay out the purposes of the Fair Housing Act. Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity eliminate housing discrimination and promote economic opportunity through housing. FHEO not only enforces the Fair Housing Laws but also investigates complaints of housing discrimination. You can submit your complaint with the FHEO if you have been discriminated against by these federal housing laws.
