D-SNAP Aids With Food Expenses Following a Declared Catastrophe
Eligibility for D-SNAP
You are only eligible for D-SNAP if you reside in an area where:
- The president has already announced individual assistance for a disaster.
- The program is authorized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service to provide the much needed assistance.
You are also eligible for D-SNAP even if you are not eligible for the regular SNAP (food stamps) program. This is because:
- You have lost your job or have a low income due to a disaster.
- You are unable to bear expensive home repairs or temporary shelter expenses.
If you have already achieved assistance under SNAP, still, you can apply for D-SNAP if you didn’t have the maximum allowed under SNAP and have disaster-related losses.
Besides this, you may be able to access complimentary free meals for your children or your entire family via school meal programs.
Apply for D-SNAP
Reach out to your local SNAP office to apply for D-SNAP. Besides this, you can also locate application sites throughout the disaster-impacted area.
