You can check through your state for shelter and housing. For housing assistance, you can check your local government or state’s human or social services programs. You can also use the map on the Homeless shelter Directory to find a shelter near you. The kinds of facilities they provide vary.
You can research the best options for:
Cost- The majority of the shelters are free but some may charge a small fee. The facilities which provide alcohol rehabilitation programs and residential drugs do charge a fee. However, most of these are low-cost and accept Medicaid or operate based on your income.
Length of stay- The length of stay might range from a couple of days to weeks or months.
Types of services- Some facilities provide safe shelter for night whereas others are transitional. There are some shelters which provide both housing and support services. They also assist you with mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, or job training.
You can apply for subsidized housing or permanent housing. Usually, there are long waiting lists for public or subsidized housing consequently it is advisable to apply as soon as possible.
