Report Deceptive Mortgage Practices and Scams
The Federal State Commission Act, a primary statute of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) states that unfair and deceptive practices affecting commerce are unlawful. If the mortgage company makes deceptive statements, omits important facts, or resorts to misleading actions, then you can report the company to the FTC. Its examples include:
- Making false statements about their ability to make a loan
- Charging fees for services the mortgage company doesn’t provide
- Using illegal tactics to collect on mortgage balances
In addition to this, you can also file a complaint with your state consumer protection office about a mortgage fraud or scam. You can reach out by calling at 1-888-995-4673.
