HUD Senior Policy Advisor And Regional Administrator To Visit Health And Community Centers In Harlem

White House Presidential Appointee and HUD senior Policy Advisor Cindy Nava along with the Regional Administrator Alicka Ampry Samuel visited two East Harlem federally funded nonprofits serving the local community on the second day of her visit to New York City.

A federally qualified health center, The Boriken Neighborhood Health Center provides comprehensive health services to the east Harlen community consisting of Black and Latino underserved residents. The Regional Administrator has been working with Boriken on this issue to address the high maternal mortality rate. HUD leaders also met with Boriken’s CEO to learn more about its work in the community, address staff challenges, and discuss strategy. The meeting was also joined by Deputy New York Council Speaker and Councilman Diana Ayala.

HUD Regional Administrator Ampry-Samuel and NYC Councilmember Ayala recently visited Union Settlement in East Harlem, the area’s largest social service agency, which serves 10,000 people each year. Union Settlement offers a range of services including senior services, early childhood programs, youth and adult education in both Spanish and English, small business development, and mental health services. During their visit, Ampry-Samuel and Ayala met with Union Settlement’s President and CEO Darlene Williams. They addressed the staff before a training session, offering encouragement for their vital work and emphasizing the importance of supporting public housing residents in East Harlem.

HUD Principals on the visits were supported by HUD Supervisory Management Analyst Angela Aloia who works closely with Ampry Samuel and HUD program analyst Anna Louise Chung.
