HUD To Do Green Renovations, Gives $5.28 Check To Selma Square Management
HUD gives $5.28 Million in funds to make apartments more energy efficient and lower energy costs for tenants.

HUD Alabama Field Office Director Kenneth Free presented a $5.28 Million check as a part of the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) on November 8, 2023. With the help of this funding, Selma Square apartments will be made more energy efficient and lower energy costs for tenants.
Regional Manager at Olympia Management, Eric Burkett said, “The ability to bring in new, modern energy-efficient equipment to upgrade the property from the foundation up is going to have a life-changing effect for everyone involved”.
Mr. Free shed light on the long-term difference the property renovations will have on the community and the jobs it will bring to Selma.
Mr. Free said, “HUD is committed to modernizing our properties in a way that is sustainable for our environment”.
Selma Mayor James Perkins also spoke about the impact $5.28 Million will bring to the Selma community. Besides this, Melinda Williams expressed her enthusiasm for the project and is looking forward to more projects like this.
This is just one of the many investments which hit the area this year. GRRP is the first program to invest in energy efficiency, climate resilience, and renewable energy generation in HUD-assisted multifamily housing.
