More than $57 Million in grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to organizations helping veterans experiencing homelessness to find meaningful employment and assist veterans in overcoming barriers to transition back into the workforce.

The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) is administered by the department’s Veterans Employment Training Service. The funding provided by the program will support 112 continuation grants which totals more than $37 Million. This in turn will fund 56 new three-year grants totalling $20 Million. With the help of these funds, the recipients will provide a wide range of services to homeless veterans or to those who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The grants are given to state or local workforce, local public agencies, non-profit organizations, tribal governments, and faith-based community organizations on a competitive basis. Homeless veterans can make use of this opportunity to learn occupational skills and attain apprenticeships or on-the-job training. Besides this, the veterans can also receive job search and placement assistance.

U.S Interagency Council on Homelessness, Chaired by U.S. Secretary, Marcia L. Fudge has a top priority to end homelessness in veterans. A key part of President Biden’s Unity Agenda in his State of the Union Address is upholding its sacred obligation to veterans.
