VA to address veteran homelessness and Announces new SSVF and GPD Funding

The VA unveils new funding for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) and Grant and Per Diem (GPD) programs, aimed at tackling veteran homelessness.

November 7, 2022

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced federal programs to help veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of getting homeless.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a program that provides supportive services to rehouse veterans and their families and identifies suitable housing options for them. The organizations situated in 50 states will be awarded funding by VA to provide the desired assistance to the veterans.

Another federal program to assist veterans is Grant Per Diem (GPD). This program helps veterans with housing beds, case management, permanent housing, and community-based services.

The supportive housing beds or service centers will get funds from Per diem only (PDO) grants. VA is likely to support 10,500 transitional housing beds and 15 service centers nationwide by awarding 350 PDO grants.

The introduction of Transition in Place (TIP) grants will enable veterans to secure apartment-style housing, allowing them to continue residing in their homes upon completing the Grant and Per Diem (GPD) program. This initiative aims to provide veterans with stable and sustainable housing solutions. There is a likelihood of awarding 40 TIP grants to support 600 TIP beds nationwide.
